GMO labelling and Monsanto

I'm writing you today under the assumption that you support a healthy environment, healthy humans and access to healthy wholesome food - and that you DON'T appreciate large corporations controlling our food supply and corrupting our democracy.

The Green Party of New York is a member of the GMO Free NY coalition, working to empower New Yorkers to get Assembly Bill A3525 and Senate Bill S3835 which mandate the labeling of GMO foods sold for retail in NYS - passed by 2014. Please take a minute to visit the GMO Free NY website to learn more about this exciting this campaign!

Here are three actions you can take this weekend in celebration of World Food Day:

1) March Against Monsanto!

2) Participate in street outreach in support of GMO labeling.

3) Sign and share the GMO Labeling petition.

Make Your Plan To Volunteer - 5 Weeks to Election Day

Friend --

Make Your Plan to Volunteer for the Final 5 Weeks of Campaign Season and E-Day!

Let's keep it simple and to the point.  Our grassroots, anti-machine, people-powered task of getting Greens elected to office in Syracuse needs YOU.

Howie Hawkins received 48% of the vote in 2011, and with everyone's courage, dedication, and effort, we can overcome that gap!  We can get Barb Humphrey a spot on the School Board and provide a real voice for student-centered education.  We can shake up the Mayor's office with Kevin Bott and a campaign for leadership not management.

Besides the current needs listed below, consider taking time off from work and school on Tuesday November 5th to be part of this historic democratic process and GOTV - Get Out The Vote on election day.  There will be phoning, doors, poll watching, human billboards, and ride sharing.  Let us know today so we can plug you into our volunteer schedule!

CURRENT NEEDS

PHONE BANKING - Every Monday through Thursday evening (5:30 pm - 8:30 pm), at the Greens office on East Genesee Street.

DOOR CANVASSING - Weekday evenings from 5:00 pm to dark.  Saturdays from 12 noon - 3:00 pm.  Sundays from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

LAWN SIGN DISTRIBUTION - On your schedule, drive or bike around town distributing lawn signs to people's yards!

Did you know that Syracuse is second only to Detroit in both the percentage of the total population living in poverty (38.2%), and the percentage of those under the age of 18 living in poverty (54.7%).  Something is obviously not working.  This year, please help us make change and make history by electing the first Greens to office in Syracuse in 2013!

Hawkins Moneybloom!

2nd-contest-natural-6-small.jpgHowie Hawkins is running for Syracuse City Council in order to speak up for the policies needed to fully fund our schools and public services. He is a lifelong activist, always working hard, agitating and organizing for practical solutions. Howie won 48% in 2011 and this year, we can elect him to the City Council.

To support him, we are organizing a MoneyBloom, a one day, online fundraising event. Pledge now and then make your donation together with all the other pledgers on Friday September 27th!

Please pledge to donate whatever you can spare to support Howie Hawkins and a historic Green win in Syracuse!

Green Party Volunteer Memo - 7 Weeks to Election Day

HELLO AND WELCOME

Welcome to the first weekly Volunteer Memo for the 2013 Syracuse Green Party campaign season!  You're receiving this because you have either volunteered with us this season or you have signed-up to volunteer at an event, or through one of our campaign websites: Syracuse GreensHawkins for 4th District CouncilBott for Mayor, or Barbara for School Board.  The purpose of this weekly email is threefold:

1) To introduce myself as Volunteer Coordinator.  I've spoken with many of you previously, or at least left you messages; and have also spent time with you in the office or at an event, and I hope this relationship can continue to develop and lead to additional contacts for volunteers.

2) To share with you the opportunities and needs of our current campaigns and county committee, and to solicit your participation.  And to provide you with reminders about events where you can meet the candidates, other volunteers, and Green Party members.

3) To instigate, invigorate, and instill a sense of urgency to you about our need for volunteer help as we head into this prime electioneering time of year following the primaries.  Remember,  the Green Party is people powered, not corporate-agenda bought-and-paid-for.  That means we need volunteers as much as we need individual monetary contributions from our supporters.  That means we need you to give of your time.
