Steve Early What Richmond Can Teach Syracuse

The Green Party of Onondaga County will be hosting union organizer and author Steve Early to discuss his latest book, Refinery Town: Big Oil, Big Money and the Remaking of an American City. The book tells the story of organizing and grassroots power in Richmond, California. Richmond was a high-poverty city under the heel of Chevron that, after electing a Green mayor and building community power through the Richmond Progressive Alliance, was able to make Chevron pay up and cut the city’s murder rate by 75%

We will also be hearing briefly from Herve Comeau (Black Lives Matter), Randy White  (Syracuse Cure Violence), Caleb Duncan (Citizens Review Board), Tim Nobel Jennings-Bey (Street Addictions Institute), Rayshawn Sullivan, (¡Apologize), Rahzie Seals (Green Candidate 4th District Common Council) and Howie Hawkins (Green Candidate For Mayor) to discuss the similar challenges facing both Richmond and Syracuse

This Event is Co-Sponsored by: Southside Community Coalition, Black Lives Matter-Syracuse and Syracuse Cure Violence.

As a political party we work to establish political action based on cooperation, rather than exploitation, on conservation rather than consumption, and on sustainability rather than short-term gain. We believe in an alternative, independent politics.
